And...we have rollidge.

From 2 perspectives.

Catching up

I've been out of town for a week at the Game Developers Converence. Typically, it's a very fun conference. This year it was different because A) it was my first time away from Desmond and B) I got sick and spent about 2 days barfing. Anyway...here's what I almost missed.

As you can see, he didn't quite pull it off. He decided to wait until I got home. He's soooo close to rolling over. If that lower arm weren't in the way, he would have it.

We are very greatful to my mother, who has been here to help for about 2 weeks. I felt much better being out of town with work knowing that Shaundar had help. Mom will be here until the end of April when Desi starts daycare. We're not ready to be leaving him with strangers, so, again...very greatful to my mom.

And, if you're interested, here is a picture of me and my work peeps at the Blacks in Gaming event, sponsored by Microsoft.

Fistful of Talent

If you're interested, I do a wee bit of semi-professional blogging. You can check out my entries at Fistful of Talent.

It's a blog on all things talent and Human Resources. Check it out, if you're interested in that kind of thing. I have a post up, today.

This is our new desktop wallpaper

My daddy leave is coming to an end

First of all, like I mentioned before, I am surprised at how little computer time I have gotten on this leave. I guess I figured there would be more nap times or something. But, there weren't.

We've established that I am the fun parent and Shaundar is the calming parent.

Things Desi and I have done over the last month:
Gone to the dog park
Taken numerous walks in the neighborhood or in a park
Gone swimming!
Played, a lot.
Screamed
Spit
Pooped
and hung out at the coffee/tea place.

One morning, we were hanging at the coffee place with a couple friends from Peps. Desi decided that he needed to poop, right then. He started fussing a bit. I said, "Are you wet? Do you need a new diaper?" and proceeded to lift him up to check his bum. Turns out, he did need a new diaper...and, new pants, and a new shirt. Oh...and, I also needed new pants because the diaper had leaked and poop had gotten all over my jeans.

Another blowout story...Shaundar and I were out for Pho and Desi started fussing. I figured he needed a new diaper. Now, this Pho restaurant is pretty ghetto. So they have a nasty bathroom and no changing table. I took Desi out to the car to change him in the backseat. Once I set up the changing station in the car and proceeded to remove him from his seat, I noticed the puddle of poop in his baby seat...and up his back. That was a fun change. It was probably 40 degrees outside.

Finally...just yesterday, we were out with our friends Kate and Dan at a new brewpub in Tacoma. Again...the fussing starts. Shaundar says, "Give him to me." So...I do. It's then that we notice the yellow substance coming through his pants all the way down to his socks. Shaundar changed him that time. Took her about 20 minutes. Dan was pretty grossed out.

Things I have learned over the last month:
Treat spit upon clothes immediately or the shirt will stain.
Poop and vomit still gross me out.
Desi likes to be sung to.
I can't keep myself off of work e-mail.
Hand-me-downs are awesome.
Even home all day, I still suck at cleaning the house. In fact, I probably make it worse simply by being home all day.

Highs:
Swimming! I'll get pictures sometime.
The giggles.

Lows:
Screaming. I really can't stand the screaming fits.

I go back to work on Wednesday. I'm sad and happy at the same time. I've really enjoyed the "stay-at-home" time. It's been great watching him grow. It's been fun getting to know him a bit more. And, it's been awesome having the time just to ourselves. But...I don't know that I am cut out to be a stay at home dad. I think I am much more the "provider" type. I have a blast with Desmond...but, I have a feeling too much time at home would bore the crap out of me. And, I could not handle the screaming. Ugh. It's great to have a partner to lean on when he gets out of control (like he did today...although, today...I think Shaundar was having a harder time with the screaming than usual).

That's all. You will probably see more posts from me once I am back in the office. I typically break from my otherwise stress filled day to keep you all updated on the goings on in the Pankow household. Look for more frequent updates, soon.

To tide you over...

I'm working on a post about my paternity leave. But, for now, to tide you over, here are some pictures and a video.
(stupid Blogger isn't working, so I uploaded the video to MySpace. Here's the embedded video.)

[UPDATE: I deleted my MySpace account because MySpace is lame. If you loved the video so much you want me to put it back, just let me know and I'll upload it somewhere else. ]

Staying at home Daddying.

I am admittedly surprised at how little computer time I get.

Sorry for the delays in posts. I'll try to get something up over the weekend.

I can't NOT chime in on this Supreme Court thing

So, it's no secret on this page that I am rapidly pro-life.  I don't beat around the bush on this topic.  But, what you may not know...
